When the labour disruption impacting staff and services at The Rose Brampton began on November 7, Osler Foundation made the difficult decision to cancel the 2024 Gala Benefit Concert planned for November 16 at the Brampton theatre. With uncertainty over how long the labour disruption would last, and following respected advice, it was most prudent to cancel the event and shift focus to mitigation. Pending ratification of the tentative agreement, city employees are expected to return to work on Saturday, November 16, which, unfortunately, would not allow sufficient time to move forward with the 2024 Gala.
This unfortunate situation will have tremendous impact as Osler Foundation relies on community support to build and equip our hospitals. Hosted each fall during the all-important giving season, the event raises critical funds for William Osler Health System (Osler) hospitals: Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital and Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness (Peel Memorial).
Last year, $510,000 was raised at the event; the goal this year was to exceed that amount to support critical redevelopment projects across Osler—including the transformation of Peel Memorial into Brampton’s second hospital and a new Cath Lab at Brampton Civic.
Ongoing generous support from the community is needed to support the current and future funding needs for Osler’s equipment and redevelopment priorities, to ensure the delivery of vital care for patients and families.
